Wedding Stationery Suite Essentials: What's Included and How to Choose Yours

What actually makes up a wedding stationery suite

Ask five couples what belongs in a wedding stationery suite and you'll likely get five different answers. Some picture only the invitation. Others imagine a full run of matching pieces from the first save the date through to the place card on the reception table. Both are right — a suite simply means every piece of paper your guests touch is designed to tell the same story, whether that's two pieces or seven.

At Just Hitched, every collection is built around the same seven-piece architecture, so you can see the full picture before deciding what you actually need:

  • Before the day: Save the Date, Wedding Invitation, Finer Details
  • On the day: Menu, Welcome Sign, Seating Chart, Name Cards

Each piece is designed to sit within the same collection — same border details, same typography system, same colourway — so however many you choose, they read as one considered suite rather than a collection of separate purchases.

Do you need every piece?

No — and very few couples order all seven. Two pieces show up in almost every order regardless of wedding size or style:

  • The Wedding Invitation — the piece guests actually hold onto, and the first physical impression of your day
  • Finer Details — the card that carries RSVP information (including a QR code through to your wedding website), gift details, and anything you'd rather not crowd onto the invitation itself

Everything else depends on your wedding, not on convention:

  • Sending a Save the Date matters most for destination weddings, peak-season dates, or long weekends when guests need extra notice to book travel and accommodation
  • A Menu and Name Cards make the most sense for a seated reception with courses to describe and guests to seat
  • A Welcome Sign is a styling choice as much as a stationery one — it sets the scene as guests arrive, but a smaller or more casual reception may not need one
  • A Seating Chart only applies if you're allocating seats — for cocktail-style or open-seating receptions, it's one you can skip entirely

Every piece can be purchased individually, so there's no pressure to commit to a full suite upfront. Plenty of couples start with the invitation and finer details, then come back to order on-the-day pieces once their venue and reception format are locked in.

Choosing a collection that fits your wedding

Once you know roughly which pieces you need, the next decision is which of our five collections feels right. Each one is a complete design language that carries across all seven pieces, so choosing your collection is really choosing the visual tone for your entire day.

  • Whimsical — hand-drawn borders, flowing script and a relaxed, garden-romance feel. Suited to outdoor and marquee weddings.
  • Romance — bold, intimate and dramatic, with deep burgundy and cherry grounds and strong contrast. Suited to evening receptions and candlelit settings.
  • Classic — timeless script-only typography with little to no border. Our most universally versatile collection, at home in almost any venue.
  • Elegance — ornate, wavy borders and all-script typography for a soft, decorative finish. Suited to romantic, detail-rich weddings.
  • Heritage — structured double-line borders with an architectural arch across the larger pieces. Suited to formal, editorial-style weddings.

If you're torn between two, it's worth looking at your invitation and welcome sign side by side — these are usually the largest and most photographed pieces, and the ones that will tell you fastest whether a collection feels right.

Keeping colour and design consistent across every piece

Every collection is available across the same eight core tones — Rose, Burgundy, Cherry, Chocolate, Sage, Blue, Ivory and White — so once you've chosen a collection and colour, it carries through every piece you order, even if you order them months apart. This is the detail that makes a suite feel like a suite rather than a set of separately chosen items: the same border, the same typography, the same colour, from the first save the date to the last name card on the table.

If you're still deciding on a palette, our guide to choosing a wedding colour palette walks through how to match a tone to your venue and season.

When to order each piece

Because on-the-day pieces depend on details you won't confirm until closer to the wedding — final guest numbers, table allocations, menu choices — it's common, and completely fine, to order in stages. As a general guide:

  • Choose your collection and colour early, ideally as soon as you start planning, even if you're not ordering yet
  • Order your save the date and invitation first, following our wedding invitation timeline
  • Order your menu, seating chart, welcome sign and name cards once RSVPs and table planning are finalised, usually two to four weeks before the wedding

Locking in your collection and colour early — even before you're ready to order — means every later piece matches automatically, with no re-checking shades or second-guessing a border style months down the line.

Suite essentials, answered

Do I have to order the full seven-piece suite? No. Most couples order the invitation and finer details first, then add on-the-day pieces closer to the wedding. Every piece is available individually.

Can I mix pieces from different collections? You can, though we'd gently steer you toward staying within one collection — the details that make each collection feel cohesive (the border, the typography pairing) are designed to work together, and mixing across collections can make the suite feel disconnected.

What if I want a piece that isn't part of the standard seven? That's exactly what our Bespoke Designs service is for — from programs to thank you cards to something entirely custom, our design team can extend any collection to include it.

Can I order pieces at different times? Yes — many couples do. As long as you keep the same collection and colour, later orders will match perfectly with what you ordered first.

Building your suite

A wedding stationery suite doesn't need to be complicated, and it doesn't need to be everything at once. Start with the pieces that matter most for your wedding, choose a collection and colour that feels like you, and let the rest follow at its own pace.
